Best Hunting Chair for a Ground Blind (2024)

As someone who’s tried numerous blind chairs, I’ve narrowed down my list of best hunting chairs to these top three swivel chairs for best comfort during long hunts.

Hunting requires patience, stealth, and comfort. When you sit in a blind for long periods of time waiting for the right whitetail deer to come along, you want maximum comfort. Paired with the comfort level, is the noisiness of a chair. You don’t want to negatively impact your stealth abilities with a chair that’s going to squeak. These are my top three picks for best hunting chairs in cold weather and long hours:

Millennium Treestands G100 Shooting Chair

This chair has the a high quantity of good reviews online and is the ultimate hunting chair solution. Portable, silent, and height adjustable (13-19 inches), it’s the better option for long sits. Hunters rave about the G100 being light weight and the most comfortable chair. The comfort outweighs any inconvenience, especially for younger hunters accustomed to carrying gear.

Weight: 8.5 lbs.

Millennium Swivel Chair Pros:

  • Exceptionally sturdy and heavy-duty construction
  • No assembly required, comes pre-assembled for immediate use
  • Convenient pouch for easy carry and storage
  • Quiet operation, suitable for stealthy hunting
  • Adjustable seat height for a wide range of hunters
  • Provides excellent, high back support, reducing strain during long sits
  • Versatile use for different hunting scenarios, including crossbow hunting
  • Good adjustability with the legs ensure stability on hilly and uneven terrain
  • Relatively light weight with a convenient carry strap

Millennium Swivel Chair Cons:

  • Price may be higher compared to similar options on the market and the only issue
  • Lack of a strap to keep it closed when handling may be inconvenient
  • Folding mechanism may unfold during transportation without a secure closure
Hunting chairs can be versatile for other uses beyond the ground blind.

Redneck Blinds Portable Hunting Chair

My hunting friend in Alaska told me about this Redneck pivoting chair. He said it’s the best ground seat he’s ever used. What sets it apart is its simplicity – no armrests to hinder your shot, and adjustable legs that align perfectly with blind windows. It’s also super comfortable, with well-padded seat and backrest. It’s a bit heavy, but I leave it in my blind for the season. Trust me, it’s worth it.

The Redneck Portable Blind Chair offers unmatched comfort and stability for ground blind hunting. Its adjustable legs and stable base ensure smooth, silent swivel motion, enhanced by sound deadening materials. A locking pin adds security against tipping, while removable cushion covers allow easy cleaning. Despite its weight, its durability and 350 lbs. weight capacity make it suitable for most hunters. It’s a top choice for comfortable and stealthy hunting if you’re looking for a compact alternative to the 4-legged swivel chair.

Weight: 16 lbs.

Redneck Portable Hunting Chair Pros:

  • Exceptionally comfortable with smooth and silent swivel motion.
  • All three legs are individually adjustable for stability on uneven terrain.
  • Sturdy construction suitable for larger individuals, holding up to 350 lbs.
  • Convenient carry strap for easy transportation.
  • Beefy construction and rock-solid stability, particularly on steep slopes.
  • Locking pin adds security against tipping.
  • Removable, washable cushion covers for easy maintenance.
  • Versatile use for hunting, including duck hunting and predator calling.
  • Most portable chair of the top three pics
  • Unique and innovative design

Redneck Portable Hunting Chair Cons:

  • Heavyweight can be cumbersome, particularly when carrying other hunting gear.
  • Tight adjustments may be challenging, especially for larger individuals.
  • Manufacturing quality may vary, with occasional issues like overly tight adjustments.
  • Lack of padding on the carry strap may cause discomfort during extended carrying.
  • Seat size may not be suitable for extra-large individuals, despite its weight capacity.

Barronett Blinds 360 Deluxe Wide Hunting Chair

This chair is stealth silent and doesn’t make much noise. It’s a game-changer for my hunting experience. It provides excellent back support for long sits in my hunting blind. The adjustable legs make it a great choice for uneven ground. And the broad duck feet help the chair not sink into wet ground. It’s also rated for 350-pound weight limit and extra wide if you’re a heavier hunter.

Weight: 20 lbs.

Barronett 360 Chair Pros:

  • Small, lightweight, and solid construction
  • Conveniently packed in a carrying bag with easy attachment to the chair

Barronett 360 Chair Cons:

  • Slightly expensive compared to similar options
  • Seat may dig into the sides of legs after prolonged use
  • Velcro closure for legs could be improved for easier carrying
  • Height may not be ideal for taller individuals, with knees at 90-degree angle when seated
  • Too large and on the heavy side to easily strap onto a backpack, despite coming with a carrying bag

NOTE: The Alps Outdoorz Stealth Hunter Blind Chair is also a good option, but it was out of stock or on backorder at the time this article was written.

Many hunters like the small triangle chairs that are more like a stool.

Portable options for a small hunting spot

If you have a smaller blind or young hunter the tripod chairs will work. The following chairs have portability as the key feature. Keep in mind that the hamstring area on the bottom of your seat might get sore after several hours.

The Barronett Blind tripod chairs have the best reviews for this need as well. I own the Cabela’s brand and I’m happy with those too.

If you’re young and strong, your chair options are broader. For us older hunters with a few aches and pains, comfort might be higher on the priority list. Another characteristic to review is how heavy and portable the chair is if you’re going to have a long walk to your blind.

I have a variety of hunting chairs in a compact size. My sons and I hunt in ground blinds for deer season and large hunting chairs are not always a good option. Everything from a folding lawn chair to a high-end hunting chair. I have the advantage of often having a son with me and an extra set of hands.

5-Gallon Bucket with Cushion:

  • Pro: Portable and multi-functional, allowing storage of hunting gear.
  • Con: Can become uncomfortable over time, especially for extended sits. Uneven terrain can further exacerbate discomfort.

Triangle Chair:

  • Pro: Compact and easy to transport with hammock seats
  • Con: Uncomfortable for prolonged use, particularly for the hamstring area. Stability can be an issue on uneven ground.

Folding Chair:

  • Pro: Provides a familiar seating experience similar to attending a sports event.
  • Con: Lack of backrest and stability, especially on uneven surfaces.

Tripod Swivel Stool:

  • Pro: Compact, lightweight, and offers 360° rotation.
  • Con: Lack of backrest and stability on uneven ground can lead to discomfort during long sits.

Field Dove Stool:

  • Pro: Lightweight and portable, with a shoulder strap for easy carrying.
  • Con: Limited comfort due to lack of backrest and stability on uneven terrain.
Portable chairs can be very simple for carrying in and out of hunting spots on public land.

Low-budget Options for the Beginner

If you’re on a budget, many hunters will recommend finding an old office chair that swivels in garage sales or second-hand stores. However, an office chair is not a good solution if you have to carry your equipment in and out every day while hunting on public land.

If you want a super simple solution, some will even recommend a simple 5 or 6-gallon bucket with a cushion on the top. Buckets are great because you use them to carry out smaller gear inside and then have them double as a seat for a small space. But a bucket solution is usually not comfortable for the taller hunter.

Plastic Adirondack chairs for $25-$50 are another favorite low-budget chair in our hunting family.

I have also used a camp chair, basic folding chairs, beach chairs, and simple lawn chairs because they are super lightweight and compact for carrying in and out of the woods. If you get the kind with a shoulder strap, that’s even better!

Best Hunting Chair for Your Outdoor Adventures

Each hunting chair caters to different needs, preferences, types of hunting trips, and outdoor activities. While some prioritize portability and compactness, others focus on comfort and stability. The choice ultimately depends on factors like terrain, duration of the hunt, and personal comfort preferences.

Picking the right hunting chair is essential for a successful and enjoyable hunting experience. Consider the terrain, duration of the hunt, and personal comfort preferences when choosing from the array of hunting chairs available on the market.
